Life Of A Disciple1
[Lk 14:26-27]
/ Paul's Special
Lecture On The
Bible
/ By Paul
In the New Testament,
the word ‘disciple’ appears
269 times, the word
'Christian' three times,
and the word 'believer'
only twice.
This number of times
means that the Bible gives
special meaning to our
religious life.
In other words,
the mission of the church
today is to show that
making disciples is
more important than
making Christians
or believers,
and that it is the most
desirable attitude of faith
for believers to live as
disciples of the Lord.
And then
it is important to find out
what is the difference
between Jesus and the
crowds who follow him.
When Jesus healed the sick
and fed the sick with wonders
and miraculous signs,
the crowds who followed
him began to worship Jesus
as a political leader
who would
liberate them from the
Roman Empire's domination
rather than the salvation
of souls and heaven
that Jesus spoke of.
However,
the ‘object of salvation’
of the Lord was ‘the soul’
and the method of
salvation was ‘the gospel’,
and it was not about
liberating them through
force or rebellion.
Even today, if you live
a life of faith that regards
the gospel as a means
of resolving the situation
in reality rather than
in relation to the soul
and in heaven, you will
have a faith that changes
its essence toward
a faith that seeks
blessings rather
than salvation.
So, instead of living
as a disciple, you are living
a humanistic life of faith,
and you will not be
able to live an upright
Christian life.
So, Jesus gave the
conditions to be a disciple.
And he commanded us to
live the life of discipleship.
1. Then, what are the conditions
of discipleship that the
Lord spoke of?
1) You must have an
irreplaceable love for Christ.
"If anyone comes to me and
does not hate his father
and mother, his wife
and children, his
brothers and sisters-
-yes, even his own life-
-he cannot be my
disciple." (Lk 14:26)
He was saying that we
should love any object
in the world less
than Jesus.
However, this scripture
does not mean that we
will love our parents
and relatives less because
we love Jesus the most,
the opposite situation
will happen.
"And hope does not
disappoint us, because
God has poured out
his love into our hearts
by the Holy Spirit,
whom he has given us."
(Rom 5:5)
When we love Jesus
the most, the Holy Spirit
pours out God's love on us,
so we can serve Jesus
more with agape love
and love people
in a broader and
deeper faith.
Jesus is the center
of life and soul.
However,
the self-centered
way of thinking makes
only my abilities displayed.
When I have the Lord in
the center of my life,
the Lord's power
will be exerted.
That's the role of the
Holy Spirit.
He pours out on us
the greatest gift, love.
