The Descendants
Of Seth 58
[Gen 5: 1-32]
/ Anne's Faith Column
/ By Priscilla
If we read the words
in the Bible, we can
find many cases in
the Old Testament
where an individual's actions
can have a huge ripple effect
not only on the individual
but also on many or
even the community.
For example,
the plague caused
by King David, and
the defeat of the city
of 'Ai' due to Akan.
These are extreme
examples that show
just how much the
root of sin that entered
into one person can
affect the community.
Contrary to this,
the whole nation can be
saved from destruction
or receive blessings
as a reward through one
person with good faith.
For example,
we learn many spiritual
lessons from characters
such as Esther, Ruth,
and Rahab.
Therefore, the Lord
has commanded us
to be on the lookout
for yeast that will affect
an individual or a
community.
God gave us a son, 'Seth',
and he inherited the
Messianic genealogy
of Jesus Christ, the one
and only Son who would
come in human form
and save mankind.
God, who is not changeable,
unlike humans, made such
a grand plan to reconcile
with the human beings
created in His image.
God opened the way
of salvation to show
the confirmation
of His love to the
'descendants of Seth'
for the people who lost
their qualifications
after leaving Him.
There are times
when humans with
original sin and
actual sin are like
'Gomer' who was
was lustful,
and wandering
in a chaotic mind
without being able to
distinguish the
sanctified life from
the worldly life.
At this time, I feel
heartbroken when
I think of God's message
over and over again
saying,
"If you repent
and turn to me, I will
blot out your sins as
white as wool."
Abba Father endlessly
patient and possesses
the attribute of love!
Since Adam, the
first human being,
sinned against God,
sin has entered
the world.
However, God had a
great interest in restoring
the relationship with
humans into the
original state.
Among them,
in the genealogy of Seth,
a person like ‘Enoch’ was
one who was united with
the Lord, who always
walked with the Lord.
So God took him up to heaven.
The descendants of Adam
through Seth reached
'Noah', and they
became prosperous.
While their lifespan
was hundreds of years,
if we have the strength,
the length of our days
is eighty,
which means that
we are being punished
in a world where all
sins are rampant.
Then, we believers
are in debt to the
love of Jesus, who
gave us the grace
of atonement.
How should we respond
to God who wants to
save all mankind?
1) Instead of taking
the attitude that we have
to do something for
God ourselves,
we should open
our heart to God and
live our life of faith with
an attitude of waiting
for what the Lord will do.
2) We should live a life
of obedience by asking
what the Lord will do.
3) We should not reveal
ourselves, but only the
image of Jesus within us.
4) Like Enoch,
we must always walk
with God, and like
King David,
we must become ones
after God's own heart.
Prayer
Give us wisdom,
understanding, and
resourcefulness
to know God,
and guide us to receive
the help of the Holy Spirit
on this earth and
to become powerful
workers who can do
the work that you
have commanded!
Amen
