[Matt 6 : 9-13]

This, then, is

how you should pray:

 

 

 

"'Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done on earth

as it is in heaven.

 

 

 

 

Give us today

our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven

our debtors.

 

 

 

And lead us not

into temptation,

but deliver us from

the evil one." 

[Matt 6 : 9-13] 

 

 

 

The Lord's Prayer

is the most common

prayer among those

who practice faith.

 

 

 

The Lord's Prayer

is an example

of a model prayer

 

 

 

that the Lord directly

taught to His disciples

and to us.

 

 

 

In other words,

the Lord's Prayer,

which contains the

most valuable content,

 

 

 

can be said to be the

central thought of

all prayers.

 

 

 

If we do not know

the meaning of

the Lord's Prayer,

 

 

 

which contains

the will of God,

it cannot but be a pity.

 

 

 

We should pray first

according to this

Lord's Prayer before

our own prayers.

 

 

 

Therefore,

it is important

to understand

 

 

 

and apply the

 Lord's Prayer correctly,

 not just blindly and

formally to memorize it.

 

 

 

Therefore, today

we are going to go

over the Lord's Prayer

in two units.

 

 

 

1. What is the nature

of the Lord's Prayer?

 

 

 

It is common for

beginners of faith to

think that prayer is

simply making their

wishes known to God. 

 

 

 

However, as the faith

gradually matures,

Christians realize that

it is first to know

God's will, not my will.

 

 

 

And we must pray

with heart and soul for

God's will to be done.

 

 

 

This Lord's Prayer

is also the wish

 of God and Jesus.

 

 

 

It is not the attitude

of a believer if it is a life

that is independent

of God's will.

 

 

 

Therefore, as Christians,

we must keep in mind

that this prayer should be

the standard of our

prayers and lives.

 

 

 

Therefore, through

Chapter 20, we should

correctly understand

God's will

 

 

 

and wish

contained in the

Lord's Prayer,

 

 

 

and ultimately,

God's will should

become our prayers,

wishes, and lives.

 

 

 

2. What is the content

  of the Lord's Prayer?

 

 

 

The Lord's Prayer is

largely divided into

eight categories.

 

 

 

1) "Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,"

(Matt 6 : 9)

 

 

 

"This, then, is how

you should pray: "

 

 

 

"Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, "

 

 

 

So, what should we

cherish in a life of prayer?

 

 

 

"I eagerly expect

and hope that I will

in no way be ashamed,

 

 

 

but will have sufficient

courage so that now

as always Christ will be

exalted in my body,

 

 

 

whether by life

or by death."

(Phil 1 : 20)

 

 

 

"So whether you eat

or drink or whatever

you do, do it all for 

the glory of God."

(1 Corin 10 : 31)

 

 

 

Therefore,

whatever we do,

we must not dishonor

the name of God

 

 

 

in our words,

behavior,

and actions.

 

 

 

2) "your kingdom come"

(Matt 6 : 10)

 

 

 

What do we pray for?

And then what comes

finally?

 

 

 

"Then I saw

a new heaven and

a new earth, for 

the first heaven

 

 

 

and the first earth

had passed away, and

there was no longer

any sea."

(Rev 21 : 1)

 

 

 

"He will wipe every

tear from their eyes.

 

 

 

There will be no more

death or mourning

or crying or pain,

 

 

 

for the old order

of things has

passed away."

(Rev 21 : 4)

 

 

 

It is good to pray that

we may enjoy good 

health and that all 

may go well with us,

 

 

 

 

but everything is not

a perfect blessing,

it is temporary.

 

 

 

Therefore, we believers

should pray that the

kingdom of God, which

is a perfect blessing,

 

 

 

will be fulfilled soon

after the Second

Coming of Jesus. 

(Matt 25 : 31-34)

 

 

 

(Ex : 1) 

 

Wheat and chaff

(Matt 13 : 24-30)

 

 

 

When the

harvest time comes,

 

 

 

the Father will separate

the grain from the

chaff and burn up

the chaff in the barn.

 

 

 

However,

the loving God

who embraces all

people is waiting long

for unbelievers

 

 

 

to repent and return

to God before the

harvest time comes.

 

 

 

This is because

God is love.

 

 

 

We must know that

it is God's perfect will

 to save all peoples!

 

 

 

3) "your will be done

on earth as it is

in heaven."

(Matt 6 : 10)

 

 

 

God wants His will

to be done sooner.

 

 

 

His great will of the

kingdom of God

and the salvation of

 human is as follows.

 

 

 

(1) God's will is for

all people to be saved

 and to know the truth.

 

 

 

"For my Father's will

is that everyone who

looks to the Son

 

 

 

and believes in him

shall have eternal life,

 

 

 

and I will raise him

up at the last day."

(John 6 : 40)

 

 

 

(2) God, who is

in control of life

and who is the

 

 

 

'Beginning and the End',

is willing to give

living water to those

who are spiritually

exhausted and thirsty. 

 

 

 

That is, God's will

is to pour out his love

and grace free of

charge on sinners.

(Rev 21 : 1, 6)

 

 

 

4) "Give us today

our daily bread."

(Matt 6 : 11)

 

 

 

Through this,

God speaks of the

question of the physical

food needed to survive

in the world.

 

 

 

(Ex : 2)

Agul's prayer

 

 

 

-Proverbs 30 is

a proverb of 'Agul',

the son of Jakeh.

 

 

 

Agul is a Gentile,

which means that

God's love is not limited

to a specific people

(the elect: the Israelites).

 

 

 

"Keep falsehood

and lies far from me;

give me neither poverty

nor riches, but give me

 only my daily bread.

 

 

 

Otherwise, I may

have too much

and disown you

and say,

 

 

 

'Who is the LORD?'

Or I may become poor

and steal, and so dishonor

 the name of my God."

(Proverbs 30 : 8-9)

 

 

 

(Ex : 3)

 

Manna

 

 

-"What is the

meaning of 'Manna',

which was the daily

food given to the

Israelites

 

 

 

living in the wilderness

 since Exodus in the 

Old Testament?"

 

 

 

God who allowed

the Israelites to take

only the daily bread

for one day! 

 

 

 

Therefore,

even though they

were so greedy

in the wilderness

 

 

 

that they tried to

stock up on manna,

it became rotten

after a day.

 

 

 

This means that

we must absolutely

believe that God

provides us with food

for our daily use,

 

 

 

and we must leave

our lives entirely to Him.

 

 

 

In other words,

we should not forget

that God is the one

who prepares,

 

 

 

and the heavenly

God is responsible

 for God's people.

 

 

 

"So do not worry, saying,

'What shall we eat?' or

What shall we drink?' or

'What shall we wear?"

(Matt 5 : 31)

 

 

 

"But seek first

his kingdom and

his righteousness,

 

 

 

and all these things

will be given to you

as well."

(Matth 6 : 33)

 

 

 

"Therefore

do not worry

about tomorrow,

 

 

 

for tomorrow will

worry about itself.

 

 

 

Each day has enough

trouble of its own."

(Matt 6 : 34)

 

 

 

Therefore,

as the psalms show,

David was able to

rely on God,

 

 

 

praise the Word,

and live daily life

without fear of

enemies. 

(Psa 56 : 4)

 

 

 

In addition, Peter

confessed that

 

 

 

'in keeping with God's

promise we were

looking forward

to a new heaven

 

 

 

and a new earth,

the home of

righteousness.'

(2 Peter 3 : 13)

 

 

 

5) "Forgive us our debts,

as we also have

forgiven our debtors." 

(Matt 6 : 12)

 

 

 

This is the prayer

regarding about the

human relationships. 

 

 

 

We are sinners

before God.

 

 

 

  Therefore, since we are

all forgiven of our sins,

God wants us to forgive

others' mistakes first.

 

 

 

We must realize that

we can love even our

enemies and pray

actively for this.

 

 

 

If we pity our brothers

wholeheartedly and

 forgive those who 

we hate from the

bottom of my heart,

 

 

 

God will forgive us

in the same way.

(Matt 18 : 33, 35)

 

 

 

6) "And lead us not

   into temptation,"

 (Matt 6 : 13)

 

 

 

The world in which

we live is invisible to

the naked eye,

 

 

 

but spiritually,

the enemy the devil

is in control and

control of the world

and tempting people.

 

 

 

"The great dragon

was hurled down-

-that ancient serpent

called the devil,

or Satan,

 

 

 

who leads the

whole world astray.

He was hurled to

the earth, and his

angels with him."

(Rev 12 : 9)

 

 

 

And Satan is trying

to destroy even the

believers through

various temptation. 

 

 

 

(Various temptations:

riches, lust, power,

false beliefs...etc.)

 

 

 

So, in order to make

each one of us not

fall into such

temptation,

 

 

 

Jesus taught us

the model 

 

 

 

1) We should watch

and pray so that we may

not fall into temptation.

 

 

 

God knows that

'the spirit is willing,

but the body is weak.'

 

 

 

Therefore, the Lord has

given us the Lord's Prayer

as a countermeasure.

(Matt 26 : 41)

                      

 

 

7) "but deliver us

from the evil one." 

[Matt  : 6-13] 

 

 

 

Because the world

is filled with sin,

we must pray that not

only myself, but

also my family,

 

 

 

my relatives,

and neighbors

will not fall into

evil sins.

 

 

 

8) "for there is the kingdom,

and the power, and the

glory forever and ever."

 

 

 

(1) This is the conclusion

of the Lord's Prayer,

which is a prayer

 

 

 

that we acknowledge

that all authority and

sovereignty rest

with God.

 

 

 

God is the

ruler of all things.

In his hands are

strength

 

 

 

and power

to exalt and give

strength to all.

(1 Chro 29 : 11-12)

 

 

 

(2) It means that our

Heavenly Father is

eternally glorified.

 

 

 

"To him who sits

on the throne and

to the Lamb be praise

 

 

 

and honor and

glory and power,

for ever and ever!"

(Rev 5 : 13)

 

 

 

(3) It means that all

our prayers and lives

should be glorified

only to God.

 

 

 

"So whether you eat

or drink or whatever

you do, do it all for

the glory of God."

(1 Corinthians  10 : 31)

 

 

 

Again, the Lord's Prayer

is an important prayer

that shows what

 

 

 

the messages our

believers should hope

for and pray for are.

 

 

 

It also serves as a

standard of life that

shows what we

must live for.

 

 

 

Therefore, this message

should be the center

of all our prayers,

 

 

 

and we should live

by applying this Lord's

  Prayer to our lives.

 

 

 

In addition,

we must also participate

in prayer so that God's holy

work of salvation can

be fulfilled.

 

 

 

3. Summary 

 

 

 

1) Tell me the nature

 of the Lord's Prayer.

 

 

 

 -This is a prayer

for realizing God's will

and for that will to

come true.

 

 

 

2) Identify and explain

the contents of the

Lord's Prayer.

 

 

 

(1) Let his name

be hallowed.

 

 

 

(2) Pray for the kingdom

 of God to come true. 

 

 

 

(3) Pray for God's will

to be fulfilled on

 this earth.

 

 

 

(4) Ask God to give us

  food for daily use.

 

 

 

(5) Ask Him to receive

  forgiveness of sins

 

 

 

(6) Ask Him to lead us

 not into temptation.

 

 

 

(7) Ask Him to deliver

us from the evil.

 

 

 

(8) Glorify only God.

 

 

 

3) Is the content of the

Lord's Prayer being

understood and is

your prayer

 being made?

 

 

 

-We must always

pray according to the

Lord's Prayer.

 

 

 

Also, we must join

in prayer so that

God's holy

 

 

 

salvation work

can be fulfilled.
