    Receive The Holy Spirit14

    [Luke 11 : 9-13]

    / Ephphatha Church

     Discipleship Training

     (Basic Course)

    / By Pastor Priscilla

    "So I say to you:

    Ask and it will be

    given to you;

    seek and you will find;

    knock and the door

    will be opened to you.

    For everyone who

    asks receives;

    he who seeks finds;

    and to him who knocks,

     the door will be opened.

    Which of you fathers,

if your son asks for a fish,

will give him a snake instead?

Or if he asks for an egg,

    will give him a scorpion?

    If you then,though

    you are evil, know how

    to give good gifts

    to your children,

    how much more

    will your Father in heaven

    give the Holy Spirit

    to those who ask him!"

    [Luke 11 : 9-13]

    If someone asks you

    what the best thing

    is in the world, what

    will you answer to it?

    There can be many

      answers and wishes.

    But today,

    Jesus teaches us

    that the Holy Spirit

    is most beneficial

    and best.

    In fact, it is.

    The best gift for us

    who believe in Jesus

    is the presence of

     the Holy Spirit.

    Why is that?

    Today, we will divide it

    into three major units

      and find out the reasons.

    1. Who is the Holy Spirit?

    In Genesis

    it was written that

    'In the beginning

    God created the

    heavens and the earth.

    Now the earth was

    formless and empty,

    darkness was over

    the surface of the deep,

    and the Spirit of God

    was hovering over

    the waters."

    (Gen 1 : 1-2)

    The Spirit of God

    mentioned above is

     God the Holy Spirit.

    (Ex : 1)

    (Trinity)

    -God's family

    and the structure

     of human family

    God of the Trinity:

    The relationship

    between God

    the Father,

    Jesus the Son,

    and the Holy Spirit

    as the Comforter

     is very unique.

    The relationship

    of the Trinity is one,

    but strictly speaking,

    the roles, functions,

    characteristics,

    and presonalties

    are different

    When the Heavenly

    Father proclaims

    His will in the Word,

    Jesus, the Son, obeys

    the will of the Father

    and performs it silently

    and joyfully,

    and the Holy Spirit,

    the Comforter, hovers

    over and works in general.

    Therefore,

    the Father, the Son,

    and the Holy Spirit

     are one body.

    How amazing is the

work of God, who is the

    trinity, cooperating in an

    inseparable relationship!

    This model can be found

    in human life through

    the structure of a family,

    that is, within the

    framework of the family.

    We can see that God

    intends to apply in the

    form of a family

    of father, mother,

    and children

    according to

    the will of God.

    Jesus speaks

     as below.

    "If I drive out demons

    by the Spirit of God,

    then the kingdom of God

    has come upon you."

    (Matt 12 : 28)

    Also, because we

    received Jesus, took

    'the Spirit of sonship',

    "and became

    the sons of God,

    God sent the

    Spirit of the Son

    into our hearts,

    so God allowed us

    to boldly call Him

    'Abba, Father'.

    (Gal 4 : 6)

    From the above scripture,

we can see that the Holy Spirit

is being called by various names.

    The reason is that

    his ministry is diverse.

    However,

    he doesn't work

    dogmatically.

    However he is God

    the Holy Spirit working

    with God the Father

     and Jesus the Son.

    2. What does the

      Holy Spirit do?

    Jesus speaks definitely

      to us today as below.

    "No one can enter

    the kingdom of God

    unless he is born of

      water and the Spirit.

    Flesh gives birth

    to flesh, but the Spirit

    gives birth to spirit."

    (John 3 : 5-6)

    "We did not receive

a spirit again that makes us

    slaves bound to the spirit

      of darkness in the past.

    However we received

    the 'Spirit of sonship',

so we can boldly cry out

    and pray to Heavenly

    Father-'Abba, Father.'

    (Rom 8 : 15)

    "The Spirit himself

    testifies with our spirit

    that we are God's children."

    (Rom 8 : 16)

    It is the Holy Spirit

    who makes us realize

      all these truths.

    "No one who is speaking

by the Spirit of God says,

    "Jesus be cursed,"

    and no one can say,

    "Jesus is Lord,"

    except by the Holy Spirit."

    (1 Corin 12 : 3)

    And John 16 : 8 says,

    "When he comes,

    he will convict the

    world of guilt in regard

    to sin and righteousness

    and judgment:"

    Here, "he" is referring

     to the Holy Spirit.

    So, what does he rebuke?

    1) Reproof for sin-

     (1) Unbelief of Jesus.

     (2) They killed Jesus because

    they loved the world.

     (3) Denial of Jesus' resurrection.

    2) Reproof for righteousness-

     (1) Making His trial injustice.

    (human righteousness)

    (2) They tried to punish Jesus

with the justice of the world.

    But by resurrection,

    Jesus set justice right.

    Therefore, he proved that

    the justice of the world

    was false.

    3) Reproof for judgment-

Satan is the ruler of the world.

    He made Jesus judged

    and crucified to death.

    This is against God's work.

    Therefore, Satan was unable

    to escape God's judgment.

    "But when he, the Spirit

    of truth, comes, he will

    guide you into all truth.

    He will not speak

    on his own;

    he will speak only

    what he hears, and

    he will tell you wha

    t is yet to come."

    (John 16 : 13)

This is, just as the Son

    Jesus answered with obedience,

    the Holy Spirit also operates

    the word proclaimed

    by God's will by obedience

and delivers it to us today.

So, we can see that God,

    who is the Trinity, does

    not act independently,

    but shows the essence of

    the collective work of God.

    The kingdom of God

    is righteousness, peace,

    and joy only in the

    Holy Spirit.

    Therefore, we should not

    focus on the realistic life

    of eating and drinking.

    (Rom 14 : 17)

    There is just something

we need to watch out for.

    This is that we must

    not leave him alone

    or grieve Him who has

    come as a personality.

    "And do not grieve

    the Holy Spirit of God,

    with whom you were

    sealed for the day

    of redemption."

    (Eph 4 : 30)

    Also, we should realize

    that the appearing of

    the Holy Spirit is trying

    to benefit us.

    "Now to each one

    the manifestation of

    the Spirit is given for

     the common good.

    To one there is given

    through the Spirit the

    message of wisdom,

    to another the message

    of knowledge by means

    of the same Spirit,

    to another faith

    by the same Spirit,

    to another gifts of

    healing by that

     one Spirit,

    to another miraculous powers,

    to another prophecy,

    to another distinguishing

    between spirits,

    to another speaking

    in different kinds of tongues,

    and to still another

    the interpretation of tongues.

    All these are the work

of one and the same Spirit,

    and he gives them to

    each one, just as he

    determines."

    (1 Corin 12 : 7-11)

    We should realize

    for sure that this works

    only according to

    God's will, not our will.

    There are so many

    and precious things

    that the Holy Spirit

    does.

    When we receive

    the Holy Spirit and

    are filled with the

    Holy Spirit,

    our lives, and our

    values are all changed.

    Therefore, the Lord said

    that the Holy Spirit

    is the best gift.

    Only after the disciples

    and apostles also received

the Holy Spirit they got to

    understand the words

     of Jesus,

    so they also preached

    to all who would preach

    the gospel of Jesus

    that they should receive

    the Holy Spirit.

    How, then, will we

    receive the Holy Spirit?

    Peter replied,

    "Repent and be baptized,

    every one of you,

in the name of Jesus Christ

    for the forgiveness

    of your sins.

    And you will

    receive the gift of

    the Holy Spirit."

    (Acts 2 : 38)

    Also, when the disciples

    evangelized and

    asked people:

    "Did you receive

    the Holy Spirit

    when you believed?"

    They answered,

    "No, we have not even

    heard that there

      is a Holy Spirit."

    (Acts 19 : 2)

    (Ex :  2

    (My testimony)

    After my father's death,

when I was 10 years old,

I began my life of faith

    by receiving God

    as my Father and

    Jesus as my Savior.

    However,

    I knew about

    God and Jesus,

    but nevertheless,

    no one in the church

    told me about the

    Holy Spirit.

    After the age of 17,

    I became spiritually

    hungry and thirsty

    while living my faith.

    Eventually, I left the Lord

and went on a long wander.

    After a few decades passed

    with trials and sufferings,

    I received the Lord again

    and became aware of the

    existence of the Holy Spirit.

    Likewise, I came to know

the existence of the Holy Spirit

through experiences, and in the end,

I experienced the being born again

with water and the Holy Spirit.

And by faith, my soul was

    truly born again.

"Then you will know the truth,

and the truth will set you free."

    (John 8 : 32)

    Therefore, I came to realize

    all the promised word

    of God through the Holy

    Spirit's intervention

    in my life.

    Since then, my values

and my life have been changed,

    and I have finally become

a servant of the Lord by

    longing for another

    grace of God,

    and I have come to

    the present where I spread

    the gospel of the Lord

    to the people around.

Before I met the Holy Spirit,

    I didn't really realize

    the knowledge and truth

    of knowing God,

    and I felt spiritual thirst,

    but I didn't know why.

    However, after

    experiencing the

    Holy Spirit,

    I was provided with

    the power to overcome

    myself and the world,

    so I became a powerful

    Christian and had a clear

    knowledge of my identity.

    In addition,

    I have learned that living

    in this earth according

    to God's will is the

    most blessed life.

    Christianity is not a religion

    that is accomplished

    through self training

    or has only knowledge

    and learning, but a

    spiritual religion.

    Therefore, we cannot

    properly understand the

    truth of true Christianity

    until we receive

    the Holy Spirit.

    That is why Jesus also

    earnestly asked his disciples

     to receive the Holy Spirit.

    Jesus commanded

     his disciples: And with

    that he breathed

    on them and said,

    "Receive the

    Holy Spirit."

    (John 20 : 22)

    "Do not leave Jerusalem,

but wait for the gift my

    Father promised,

    which you have heard

    me speak about.

    For John baptized

    with water, but in a

    few days you will be

    baptized with the

    Holy Spirit."

    (John 1 : 4-5)

    3. When does the

    Holy Spirit come

    upon us?

    1) When we all join

    together constantly

    in prayer,

    the Holy Spirit will

    come upon us.

    (Acts 1 : 14)

    2) Only if we receive

    repentance, baptism,

    and forgiveness of sins,

    the Holy Spirit will

come to us as a gift.

    (Acts 2 : 38)

    "Repent and be baptized,

    every one of you,

in the name of Jesus Christ

    for the forgiveness

    of your sins.

    And you will receive

the gift of the Holy Spirit."

    (Acts 2 : 38)

    3) When a servant of God

    places his hands on us,

    and we can receive

    the Holy Spirit.

    (Acts 8 : 17)

    4) The Holy Spirit will

    come to all who hear

    and yearn for the good

    news of God.

    (Acts 10 : 44-45).

    "While Peter was

    still speaking these words,

    the Holy Spirit came on

    all who heard the message.

    The circumcised believers

    who had come with Peter

    were astonished that

the gift of the Holy Spirit

    had been poured out

    even on the Gentiles."

    (Acts 10 : 44-45)

    5) The Holy Spirit will

    come upon us when we

    constantly pray.

    (Luke 11 : 13)

    Especially it is the most

    important thing to realize

    the importance and

    necessity of the Holy

    Spirit and pray constantly.

    The Holy Spirit is

    definitely present in

    our earnest prayer.

    (Luke 11 : 13)

    Now, we believers

    who have received Christ

as Savior must long for and

    ask for the Holy Spirit.

    Furthermore,

    we should receive

    the greatest gift from

    God th children of God,

    that is, we should

live a life of faith with

    the Holy Spirit.

    From this, we can see

    that the Holy Spirit has

    no favoritism and

      restrictions.

    Therefore, the Holy Spirit,

    transcending any region

    or nation, is involved

    in preaching to all peoples

    the salvation of God

    and the good news

related to the kingdom of God,

    Heaven, and is constantly

    at work on those who

    accept the blessed Word.

    Therefore, our hearts

    should be steadfast today.

    And we should receive,

    welcome, and accept

    the Holy Spirit, who comes

    to us as the Comforter

    with a personality.

    In conclusion, from today on,

let's ask the Holy Spirit to

    know exactly what our

    identities,

and to know what we are

    entrusted with and what

    our mission is for God.

    And while living

    on this earth,

    let's be guided by

    the Holy Spirit and

    become powerful

    children of God

    and messengers

    of the Gospel who

    will glorify God with

    a true Christian life!

    -Hallelujah

     Amen!

    the Holy Spirit

    and be those who

    long for the Holy

    Spirit, too.

    Five steps of the

    work of the Holy Spirit

     5) Full of ability -

    Maintaining abilities

    for ministry to lead

    a victorious life.

    Therefore, accept

    the Holy Spirit,

    acknowledge him

    as a personality,

    and welcome him!

    Conclusion-

    For the righteous

    and the saints,

life on this earth can be

    so hard and even

    more difficult.

    Evil spirits make us

    commit sins, and in any

    way seek to destroy

    our happiness.

    There is no way

    or trick for us

who are weak in the flesh

    to deal with and defeat

    evil spirits.

    Therefore,

    in order to engage in

    constant spiritual battles

    with the forces

    of darkness,

    we must be clothed

    with the power and

    presence of the Holy

    Spirit even more.

    We should be saints

    who live a victorious life

    in our environment,

    being clothed with

    the power of the Holy

    Spirit who has come to

    help us from today on.
