    Discipleship Training

    (Basic Course)

    / By Pastor Priscilla

    'A believer is a person

    who accepts God's words

     of love and his deeds.'

    Today, we are going

    to see our identities

    as believers after receiving

    Jesus and the changed

     futures in four parts.

    1. Change of our identities.

     1) God has given the right

    to become his

    children to us.

    (Jn 1 : 12)

    (Ex : 1)  An orphan

    This is a true story

    that happened after

     an orphan was adopted.

    A girl was adopted

    and brought to her

     adoptive parents' home.

    That night, when

    she was about to sleep

    on the floor without

    sleeping in a prepared bed,

    her adoptive parents

    asked her why she

     was doing that.

    And she replied,

    “I don't know how to

    thank you for receiving

    me as your child...

    I’m happy I'm able to

    sleep on the floor.

      That's enough for me.

    Likewise, God adopted

    us, sinners, made us

    his children,

    and saved us.

    Nevertheless, we are

    trying to continue

    to live our old life

    without knowing our

    changed identities.

    So what is the authority?

    (Ex : 2)

    Female Police officer

    When a woman

    police officer, who

    manages traffic

    in the middle

    of the street

    during a rush hour,

    blows a whistle

    and signs to stop,

    no matter how big

    you drive a vehicle,

    you have to obey

    and stop according to

    her instructions.

    As a traffic police officer,

    she has such authority

    to command the safety

    of traffic in uniform,

    blowing a whistle.

    Therefore, there's

    something we

    should  remember :

    God has given us the

    right and authority

    to become his children

    in order to guide us

    into the path of salvation.

    2) We have become

    God's family.

    (Eph 2 : 19)

    Above all, it's the

    change of our identities

    to be recovered

    from the relationship

    between man who

    was a sinner and God.

    Consequently,

    we are no longer

    foreigners

    and strangers,

    but fellow citizens

    with God's people,

    and members of God's

    household who will inherit.

    3) We have been justified.

    (Rom 5 : 1 , Rom 5 : 9)

    We are saved in return

    for Jesus' sacrifice.

    After believing

    in the Lord and

    receiving him

    as our Savior,

    we, who were sinners,

    have been justified

    because of the blood

    of Christ.

    So, keep in mind

    that we are no longer

    children of wrath.

    Since we have been

    justified through faith

in the blood of Jesus Christ.

    Now we can rejoice

    in peace that God

    has given us, and

    enjoy the peace

    with God.

    4) Our names have

    been written in the

    book of life.

    (Lk 10 : 20)

    Now, we have had

    proud identities and

    become new beings

    to enjoy peace

    with Christ.

    Besides, our names

    have been written

    in heaven!

    How amazing is

    the love of God

    who has made this

    work of salvation!

    2. What happened

    to our sins?

    As the psalmist David

    has defined 'the blessed'

    in Psalms, (Psa 1 : 1-6)

    God acknowledges

    those who do not walk

    in the counsel of

    the wicked

    but those who walk

    in the counsel of

    the righteous.

    The first human

    being, Adam,

    disobeyed God,

    and after the sin,

    original sin and

    self-crime were given

    to his descendants.

    But, God has promised

    that if sinners repent

    and turn to the Lord,

    their sins will become

    whiter than wool.

    Therefore,

    God says that

    'the blessed,' who

    no longer accept

    or commit sins but

    depart from

    transgressions,

    have been delivered

    from destruction and

    become righteous.

    That's because

    God says that he

    has swept away

    their all sins

    and they

    have no more sins.

    (Isa 38 : 17, Isa 44 : 22,

    Isa 43 : 25)

    3. What path is open

     between us and God?

    To those who repent,

the path to heaven will open,

    and they will be given

    an opportunity to

    meet God

    in the Holy Place

    where God enters.

    (Ex: 3)

    'The Pilgrim’s Progress'

    written by John Bunyan.

    In prison,

    John Bunyun wrote

    the famous book called

    -'Pilgrim’s Progress,'

    which means

    'the way of Christianity.'

    It shows that

    Christian life is by

    no means smooth

    on this earth.

    As he wrote in his

    inspired book,

    we God's chilren

    are likely to be tempted

    and dangerous,

    and in difficulties

in the way of the world,

    since there

    are many accidents,

    all kinds of problems,

    temptations and trials

    in the world.

    However, if

    we stand firm

    in the way of God,

    and endure to the end,

    we can possess heaven

    even on earth,

    and eventually

    we will have eternal

    life in heaven.

    1) We will meet God

    who gives us the grace

to help us in our time

    of need.

    (Ex : 4)

    Gift packages

    When hearing the

    testimonies of people

    who have been

    to heaven,

it is said that in heaven,

    there are many

    returned packages

    because there is no

    address or no one

    to receive those

    packages.

    It means that

    while praying there

    are so many people

    who gave up

    the packages of answers

    halfway and left God.

    In other words,

    it means that they

    haven't waited for God t

    o answer to the end.

    Every good and

    perfect gift is from above,

    coming down from the

    Father of the

    heavenly lights.

    (James 1 : 7)

    Therefore, we should

    approach the throne

    of grace with confidence,

    so that we may receive

    mercy and find grace

    to help us in our

    time of need.

    (Heb 4 : 16)

    (Ex :  5)

    Around the battlefield,

    a soldier gave a ride

    to a woman.

    During a war,

    a soldier was

     driving a jeep,

    and met a woman

    carrying a heavy

    basket on her head,

and he gave her a ride.

    But how ridiculous

    for her to have kept

    the heavy basket

    on her head even

    in his car!

    She said,

    “Thank you for the ride,

    but it's my job to

     carry this basket.”

    Probably the

    same goes to us,

    the children of God.

    For six days we carry

    the heavy burdens

    of life we obtain

    from the world

    and head to church

    on Sunday with

    concerns and

    anxieties.

    And we come to

    the throne of grace,

    feeling shrunk.

    In God's temple,

    we repent to God

    in the weakness

    of sinners.

    Also, after we

    put the  prayers

      on the altar,

    at the moment

    we are about to

    return home after

    worship and prayer,

    just as we get back

    the baggage we

    leave to someone,

    we get back the

    concerns

    and anxieties

    we leave to God,

    and we carry the

    heavy burden of life

    on our heads

    and return home.

    Probably this is

    our routine life and

    every Sunday this may

    happen to us

    repeatedly.

    However,

    Jesus said,

    "Come to me,

    all you who are

    weary and burdened

and I will give you rest."

    In this way,

    Jesus has become

    the Lamb of God,

    who takes away our

    sins of the world.

    4. What will happen

    to us in the future?

    On this earth,

    God allows us,

    who are his beloved

    children, to enjoy

    good health,

    and everything to

    go well with us,

    and our souls to get

    along well.

    (3 John 1 : 2)

    In the future,

we will share, as a bride,

    in the wedding supper

    of the Lamb,

    and in the future

    we will be the heirs

    of Jesus in Heaven,

    and we may have

    the right to the

    tree of life and may

    go through the gates

    into the city.

    (Rev 22 : 14)

    And we will enjoy

    eternal life and

    blessings from God.

    Therefore, we

    should realize that

    those who believe

    in God will have

    new identities

    : we will not be

    condemned any longer

    ; we have crossed ove

    r from death to life.

    (Jn 5 : 24)

    "We are no longer slaves,

    but by faith, we have

    become sons,

    God sent the Spirit

of his Son into our hearts,

    the Spirit who calls out,

    "Abba , Father."

    (Gal 4 : 6-7)

    That's because

    the Spirit himself

    testifies with our spirit

    that we are God's

    children, heirs--heirs of God

    and co-heirs with Christ,

    that is, we will inherit

    with Christ.

    (Rom 8 : 16-17)

    So, Christians should

    not be discouraged

    in suffering on earth.

    This is because we have

    become co-heirs with

    Christ

    and we can

    share in Christ's glor

    y and sufferings.

    God is the one who

    will give to everyone

    according to what

    he has done.

    (Rev 22 : 12)

    Whether God will

    reward or punish depends

    on the authority of

    Almighty God.

    5. Conclusion

    Now, we are God's

    children. Our sins have

    been forgiven

    and we have

    crossed over from

    death to life.

    We have become heirs

    to the eternal kingdom

    of God, not hell.

    In addition, we should

    remember that we have

    become new identities

    to possess the faithful

    grace of God that we

    can enjoy on this earth.
