Peaceful Life
(Oath of Abraham And
Abimelech)83
[Gen 21:22-34]
/ Anne's Faith Column
/ By Priscilla
Abimelech and Abraham
swore to each other and signed
a peace treaty, and used this as
evidence to turn discord into peace.
Although Abimelech was
the king of Egypt, he said
to Abraham,
'God is with you in everything you do.'
He acknowledged Abraham
and also acknowledged
the God of Abraham.
So he urged Abraham not
to swear falsely.
And Abimelech made him
aware that he himself recognized
Abraham as a child of God
and showed him kindness.
Abraham also urged King Abimelech
to swear that he would not harm him
and show kindness to him in the
land where he was staying.
Because of God's thorough
intervention, we can see f
rom the Bible that Abraham
left his people
and came to Egypt (the world)
and deceived his wife as his sister,
and King Abimelech fell in love
with his wife Sarah and wanted
her to be his wife.
But God came to Abimelech
in a dream and warned him
that Sarah was a married
woman
and that if he took her,
he would be put to death.
King Abimelech scolded
Abraham greatly, and
in the end,
we can see that he paid
severely for his choice.
It is truly dramatic that
Abimelech recognized
Abraham as a child of God.
Moreover, it could not
have been possible without
God's grace to cover the
faults of the past.
Some people use their
own means and methods,
but get shamed, on t
he contrary,
even Christians who once were
criticized are sometimes
praised for being changed.
Therefore, we must never
escape from our reality no
matter what happens.
If we are willing to take on
the tasks entrusted to us,
and even if we make mistakes,
and if we persevere and
only fear and serve God,
our difficulties will become
blessings in the end,
and even non-Christians
will come to pay more
attention to us,
and eventually make
a peace treaty with us.
So, let's look forward to
God's work with joy.
And we should recognize that
the means to escape from
our reality are not permitted
before God.
So what should we do?
1) As Christians, we must
distinguish between what we
should do and what we
should not do.
2) We must have a firm
philosophy of faith.
3) We must always be conscious
of non-Christians and act
righteously before God
and them.
Prayer
Lord!
May we enjoy the peaceful life
that comes from the fear
of the Lord.
Amen
