Get Out Of Life Where
Man's Wickedness
Is Great 77
[Gen 19:1-14]
/ Anne's Faith Column
/ By Priscilla
The corrupted cities of Sodom
and Gomorrah, symbolizing
the world of wickedness,
were so great with sin that it
became out of control.
When the angels of God,
sent to herald their
impending destruction,
arrived in Sodom,
the people there were
wicked enough to insist
that they have sex
with the angels,
and eventually they could
not escape God's wrath.
Even Lot's sons-in-law
took Lot's warning as a joke,
and it shows us how many
people had lived prodigal
lives in those days.
This proves the reality
and ignorance of those
who were so far from
spiritual life in those days.
Lot selected the cities
of Sodom as a settlement,
which had favorable
conditions in his eyes,
and settled down nearby.
It seems that he had
a little faith in God at that
time in his new land,
which he regarded
as fertile.
When angels of God
passed by to destroy
the cities of Sodom
and Gomorrah,
Lot who was sitting
in the gateway of the city
in the evening, recognized
and welcomed them.
I wonder why he was
sitting in the gateway of
the city in that evening.
It seems that he may
have felt a great
disappointment
in a worldly city full
of wickedness.
We can see how severe
the depravity was when
we see that most of the
people of Sodom
and Gomorrah wanted
to have sex with passers-by,
even when they knew
they were angels of God,
and calling out in order to
insult them even more.
It seems that he felt
something empty and
more intensely longed
for God's embrace
and grace.
In fact, he may have
felt frustrated
and disappointed with
such a life, even though
it was the land he
had chosen
because it was a place
where morality, ethics,
and discernment had
been lost for a long time.
When everything is corrupted,
nothing can be expected.
Moreover, it is a practical
example that shows that
people without dreams,
people who ignore God
and do not want to know
Him, will inevitably
be put to shame and
destroyed.
Anyone who pursues
the worldly things will be
blinded by the world's wealth,
rank and fame. And they
become dull in spiritual things.
So they gradually distance
themselves from the Lord,
and afterward, they live
a life led by the cravings
of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes,
according to the demands
of the sinful nature.
Sometimes they are
resting in God's embrace,
but they indulge in the
benefits of the world
and do not try to break
out of their own eggs easily.
It is easy to become
a dual personality like Lot,
who has a separate,
dualistic life in which
the consciousness of the
flesh and God are not aligned.
Lot must have felt a strong
desire to sanctify himself
in such a life.
How come his sons-in-law
considered his words as a joke?
I wonder what on earth he
had led a life like.
If Lot's faith had been faithful
and his sons-in-law had
come to believe in God
after seeing the faith of his
father-in-law,
they would never have
disregarded God's word
or regarded it as a joke.
This reality applies
equally to us today.
How many times do we
too easily forsake God's grace
and dishonor His name
instead of obeying
God's will?
So, what should we learn
from today's scripture?
1) Even in a world full
of wickedness, we mus
absolutely guard our hearts.
2) Lot's actions eventually
became the motive for
obtaining shameful
salvation.
Therefore, we must learn
a lesson from the easy
attitude of faith he
showed us.
Therefore, if there is
someone like Lot who is lost
in the abyss of sin at
this moment,
living in darkness
and wandering in loneliness,
I hope that he will quickly
escape from the world
full of chaos and sin
and return to the embrace
of Almighty God.
Prayer
Thank you Lord.
We learn a lot from
Lot's attitude of faith.
This is by no means
unfamiliar to us.
Help us clear these things
from each of us at this time
and never fall away from
the path of the righteous
that you have given us!
Also, in the presence
of unbelievers, please
help us not to be believers
as uncertain as Lot.
And please help us to
guard our hearts.
Therefore, lead us always
to sanctify ourselves
so that we can become
examples of fully fearing
and serving God.
Amen
