Life Of A Disciple3

[Lk 14:26-27]

Lecture On The

Bible

2) We must live the life

of taking our cross every day.

"And anyone who does

not carry his cross and

follow me cannot be

my disciple."

[Lk 14:27]

Every Christian has

a cross given to him

and a cross to carry.

In other words, it is the

‘Cross of His Life’ and

the ‘Cross of Mission’.

[Ex] Physical defects,

sick parents, care for

spouses and children,

burden of raising a large

family, and living with

in-laws, etc.

These are the cross of our lives

that God lets each of us take

in order to refine each of us.

Through these, we learn

patience and humility

and prevent us from

going down the path

of sinful desires.

But when Jesus tells us

to take our own cross,

it means that we have

to go one step further

and endure the difficulties

we face because of Him.

It means that anyone

who receives the mission

has to go through

sacrifice

and suffering in order to

accomplish the will of God.

It refers to difficulties

that arise when working

for the kingdom of God,

such as evangelism,

care, education, service,

relief, and missions.

It is natural that we wish

to avoid the cross given to

each of our circumstances.

However, we cannot

look away the cross that

we must carry because

the Lord took the cross

for the sake of me.

Even if it is a small cross

that the Lord has allowed

me to carry for others,

I must take it for others.

If we realize this,

we will be willing to

carry the cross

voluntarily.

3) We must be able to

freely lay down our

possessions.

"In the same way, any of you who

does not give up everything

he has cannot be my disciple."

 [Lk 14:33]

What Jesus really wants us

to do is not to say that

we should sell everything

we have and donate it

to the church or give it

to the poor as alms.

It means we should use

our possessions properly.

God gives us financial

blessings, not for the joy

of possession, but

for the joy of use.

Our attitude toward money,

whether to use or not,

is a measure of the

sincerity of discipleship.

(Ex: Rich young man)

For this, the Lord allows us

to experience financial

poverty at least once

in a lifetime.

He grants us the blessing

of abundance after we

learn to rely completely

on the Lord.

This is because we do not

live a life that is bound

by material things.
