Melchizedek's Blessing

(The High Priest of

God Most High) 65

[Gen 14:17-24]

/ Anne's Faith Column

/  By Priscilla

"After Abram returned

from defeating Kedorlaomer

and the kings allied with him,

the king of Sodom came out

to meet him in the Valley

of Shaveh (that is, the

King's Valley).

 Then Melchizedek king of Salem

brought out bread and wine.

He was priest of God Most High,

and he blessed Abram, saying,

"Blessed be Abram by God Most High,

Creator of heaven and earth.

And blessed be God Most High,

who delivered your enemies

into your hand."

Then Abram gave him

 a tenth of everything.

 The king of Sodom

said to Abram,

"Give me the people

and keep the goods

for yourself."

But Abram said to

the king of Sodom,

"I have raised my hand

to the LORD, God Most High,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and have taken an oath

that I will accept nothing

belonging to you,

not even a thread

or the thong of a sandal,

so that you will never

be able to say, 'I made

Abram rich.'

I will accept nothing

but what my men have eaten

and the share that belongs to

the men who went with me

--to Aner, Eshcol and Mamre.

Let them have their share."

(Gen 14:17-24)

In today's scripture,

'Abram', who received

the blessing of 'Melchizedek',

king of Salem, gave a tenth

of everything to Melchizedek.

However, Abram refused

to accept the goods

of the King of Sodom

who did him favors.

One of the most serious

problems for lay people

and ministers today is

about material wealth.

There are many times

when if we do not have

a firm view of material

wealth, even a servant

of God will be led to

the downfall.

'Melchizedek' was called

the high priest of God

Most High, and he also

symbolizes 'Jesus Christ'.

There is one thing

we should remember

is that Abram was a man

who had fellowship with God,

and he was a man with

open spiritual eyes,

who had the ability to

distinguish between what

must be done and what

must not be done.

He was indeed a person

who possessed the qualities

of the father of faith.

Before he went down

to Egypt due to financial

poverty and famine

and deceived his wife

to be his sister, he had

had material riches

and was always a person

who was always

thoroughly prepared.

'Abram' was able to rescue

his nephew 'Lot' because

he was  preparing

318 warriors

all the time who were

trained at his house.

Like this, he was always

thoroughly prepared,

and as soon as he heard

the bad news of his nephew,

he was able to move

immediately.

Abram receive the blessings

of Melchizedek willingly,

while he refused the goods

of the king of Sodom,

which belonged to a world

dominated by wickedness,

even though he could

get them.

Saying no isnot easy at all.

It takes wisdom for us

to say no without

breaking the heart of

someone else, especially

when he does us a favor.

Abram, who was interested

in pleasing God the Fathe

r before men, refused to

do what God did not allow.

Therefore, we must truly

imitate his decision to

set a cause before God

and the attitude of

'Abraham, the father

of faith'.

1) We shouldn't be

obsessed with material

wealth and feel free

from that.

2) We should put Jesus Christ

first, the high priest of the

Most High God.

3) We should not give in

 to or compromise with

the worldly temptations

and reality.

Prayer

Lord!

As a servant of God,

I desperately need financial

blessings from You.

And let me have the right

view of material wealth

and use money wisely

in the right place!

Give me faith to

meet Melchizedek.

Amen
